Band

6th Grade Band 

The middle school band program consists of a large group band rehearsal and a 30-minute small group/individual lesson. In addition to learning new concert band songs, students will have the opportunity to participate in jazz bands, woodwind ensembles, brass ensembles, and percussion ensembles. Studies have shown that playing a band instrument helps to improve student performance in all areas of learning, and students will meet many new people. All students who make a sincere, consistent effort will have a positive experience in the SHMS band program.

7th Grade Band

Students will explore opportunities for performance in groups such as concert band, jazz band, jazz combo, holiday band, percussion ensemble, woodwind groups, and brass groups. Some of these groups will also perform on field trips. Studies have shown that playing a band instrument helps to improve student performance in all areas of learning. You have learned the basics – now explore the next level of music making!

8th Grade Band 

Eighth grade band is a prerequisite for the many opportunities that await students in our nationally recognized high school band programs. Eighth grade band members will continue to have many performance opportunities including concert band, jazz band, jazz combo, small ensembles, holiday band, and pep band. Studies have shown that students who participate in instrumental music programs have higher grades, perform better on tests, and have the confidence of a strong and positive social group with which to interact. Perform fun and challenging music while creating memorable middle school experiences!
